Apple To Increase UK App Store Prices

iOS applications purchased through the App Store are set to become a little bit more expensive in the next few days as Apple adjusts prices in accordance with adjusted VAT and currency exchange rates.

The company has informed developers of the increases, which will affect Canada and the European Union within the next 36 hours. In Iceland, prices will actually go down and in Russia, the cost of apps will “change” but it is unclear whether they will go up or down.

App store price increase

According to the letter, seen by 9to5mac, Apple will be releasing updated developer agreements and pricing documents soon.

The App Store launched in 2008 with 500 applications for the iPhone and added iPad apps in 2010. In 2013, more than $10 billion worth of software was shifted through the marketplace, which now has in excess of 900,000 apps.

The launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus last year has allowed Apple to increase its share of the smartphone market in many key territories, including the UK.

The company is currently working on its first wearable, the Apple Watch, which it is rumoured will be launched in March. Developers have already started working on applications for the device after the iOS 8.2 beta SDK was released in November, providing access to the WatchKit.
