iPhone 7 Could Be Powered By Samsung Chips

A South Korean newspaper has said that Samsung Electronics will be the lead supplier of processors for the iPhone 7.

Maeil Business Newspaper cited sources in the semiconductor market, claiming that Samsung will be providing around 75 percent of the chips for the next iPhone.

Financial details were not available, but the chips will reportedly be manufactured in Austin, Texas.

The newspaper said: “According to sources in the semiconductor industry on Sunday, Samsung Electronics will supply A9 for Apple’s next handset model iPhone 7. The A8, IPhone 6 AP, has been solely supplied by Taiwan’s TSMC, leaving no room for Samsung Electronics to be the AP supplier.

“However, this time, 75 percent of A9 will likely come from Samsung Electronics, market watchers expect.”

Two releases in 2015?

The news comes alongside rumours that Apple will be releasing two iPhones this year, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7.

The 6s could be released alongside the long-awaited Apple Watch during the first half of the year, with the iPhone 7 arriving in September.

The Mail Online said: “The new schedule is expected to stagger the releases of two devices in 2015 to capitalise on sales.

“Apple could release the iPhone 6S to people who want to upgrade to a slightly cheaper model, before announcing its flagship iPhone 7 in the autumn.”
