HTC Names Its New Smartphone…The ‘New HTC One’

HTC has finally confirmed the name of its newest flagship smartphone, set to be revealed in Barcelona in two weeks time.

The ‘New HTC One’ will be unveiled at a media event entitled ‘Utopia in Progress’ on March 1, the day before the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the company confirmed on its UK Twitter feed today (pictured below).

This means that it will be competing with the release of Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 device, occurring on the same evening in the city.

All change

Originally codenamed ‘Hima’, The New HTC One had been thought to follow the naming convention of its predecessor, the HTC One M8, but the company has instead looked to go down a different route as it looks to stand out in an increasingly crowded Android marketplace.

The new device is thought to have a similar metal ‘unibody’ structure and front-facing speakers, and feature a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display and run an updated version of HTC’s Sense UI alongside Google’s Android Lollipop software, according to reports.

This will be powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 810 chip, 3GB of RAM and a 2,840mAh battery, unnamed sources told Bloomberg earlier this year.

But the real headline feature will be an upgraded 20MP rear camera and HTC UltraPixel front camera which will put the One M9 out ahead of many devices currently on the market.

The New HTC One will also be accompanied by HTC’s first-ever wearable device, a smartwatch developed in partnership with sportswear brand Under Armour. The two will no doubt be able to link together to provide health-focused information and tracking statistics on a user’s activity.
