Is HTC Also Planning A Super-Sized Smartphone?

Company teases something ‘huge’ ahead of March 1 event – could it be a One M9 Plus?

HTC has hinted that the unveiling of its latest flagship smartphone in a few weeks could also herald the entrance of a new, larger screen device, as the company looks to take on the likes of Apple and Samsung.

Earlier today, HTC’s USA Twitter account posted “Something HUGE is coming from HTC. Imagine [number][big thing] in space. And then [math term] that by [number].#Madlib“.

The post (also pictured below) led many observers to state this could be in reference to an accompanying ‘phablet’ device, similar to Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus or Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4.

So as far as we know, HTC is gearing up to launch at least one new device at its ‘Utopia in Progress’ event in Barcelona on March 1, thought to be the successor to its current One M8 device.

Originally thought to be called the HTC One M9, the company appeared to reveal the name of the new device as ‘The New HTC One’ earlier this week.

Thought to have a similar metal ‘unibody’ structure and front-facing speakers to the One M8, the new device will also feature a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display and run an updated version of HTC’s Sense UI alongside Google’s Android Lollipop software, according to reports.

This will be powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 810 chip, 3GB of RAM and a 2,840mAh battery, unnamed sources told Bloomberg earlier this year.

But the real headline feature will be an upgraded 20MP rear camera and HTC UltraPixel front camera which will put the new device out ahead of many devices currently on the market.

This smaller device looks almost certain to appear, particularly given that cases from accessory maker Spigen are now appearing to purchase on Amazon.

Available in Metal Slate, Gunmetal and Champagne Gold, the cases will go on sale from April 3 and appear to show slots for a larger camera lens on the back and similar build to the One M8.
