Amazon Launches Family-Friendly Fire Tablet Costing Under £50

New 7in Fire tablet is also available to buy in a six-pack, for some reason, alongside new Fire HD 8 and 10 devices

Amazon has re-entered the mobile device market with a new budget tablet which it says offers fun for all the family.

The new Fire tablet will cost just £50, and will be available to buy from the company’s website from September 30. And if you’re feeling generous, you can buy five tablets and get a sixth one absolutely free.

Fired up

Amazon says that the device offers an ‘all-day’ battery life of up to seven hours

There is also the usual range of Amazon-specific features, including Bellini, the latest version of Fire OS, which sports an updated user interface that replicates the look and feel of a magazine. There’s also the Amazon Underground app store, and Mayday Screen Sharing if you get into any trouble.

The Fire tablet is also rather durable, it seems, with Amazon stating that it is almost two times more durable than the latest generation iPad Air.

“Today, we’re taking another step in our mission to deliver premium products at non-premium prices,” said Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. “Fire sets a new bar for what customers should expect from a low cost tablet.”

And more

The former two devices are Amazon’s thinnest tablets yet, measuring just 7.7mm across, and with a 10.1in display, the Fire HD 10 (pictured right) is the company’s largest tablet yet too.

Featuring a wide-screen HD display that packs in over a million pixels, MediaTek 1.5Ghz quad-core processor and the same 128GB worth of microSD expandable storage as the basic Fire tablet, along with all the features of Fire OS 5 Bellini, the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 will also go on sale September 30 for $149.99 and $229.99 respectively.

“Fire HD combines an incredibly thin and light design with powerful performance to deliver the best entertainment experience available on a tablet,” said Bezos.
