EE Offers Free Power Bars To Charge Customers Phones On The Go

EE is to offer a free power bar to all mobile and broadband customers to help them charge their smartphone throughout the day and avoid the nightmare scenario of running out of battery.

Customers will need to get a code from EE which can then be redeemed at any of the company’s retail store for a power bar. Once the device has been used, it can either be recharged using the MicroUSB port or swapped for a freshly charged replacement at an EE store.

EE held a much smaller-scale programme at the Glastonbury festival last year for a fee.

To get a free power bar, contact mobile users need to text ‘POWER’ to 365, while broadband users need to send ‘JOIN’ and their landline number to 60005 to validate their eligibility. Pay as you go customers are also eligible but must have been with EE for three months and non-EE customers can participate for £20.

“Almost everyone’s experienced the frustration associated with running out of battery and it always seems to happen when you need your phone the most,” said EE chief marketing officer Pippa Dunn. “With EE Power, we’re trying to help by giving our customers a Power Bar that can simply be swapped for a fully charged one at any of our stores, at any time, for free.”

EE says each power bar has a lifespan of 500 charges and says its pledge of “never ending power” will help the 60 percent of smartphone users who say their smartphone battery doesn’t last a full day, according to recent YouGov research

The same survey found more than half of respondents wished there were more places to charge their phone in public places. The answer could be wireless charging, with many retailers, including Starbucks and McDonalds, starting to offer wireless hotspots in some locations.

  • Great news. Immediately texted 365 and got an instant reply saying EE Power launchs on Thursday 16 April, so text back then.
