CES 2016 – Casio WSD-F10 Is A Rugged Smartwatch For The Great Outdoors

Iconic watchmaker Casio has revealed its first ever smartwatch at CES 2016, offering up a wearable designed for fans of fitness and the wilderness.

Available in four colours, Casio says that the WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch has been tested to military standard specifications to ensure it can withstand a variety of rugged activities, and comes with a number of dedicated apps to benefit outdoor activities such as trekking, cycling, and fishing.

Running Android Wear, the device features a 1.32in touchscreen with a resolution of 320 x 300 pixels, and is made of tough plastic, meaning it can be comfortably worn for extended periods. However it’s still fairly light, weighing in at just 90g, and will be available in four colours: black, green, orange, or red.

Tough

The watch has GPS, a barometer, altimeter, and a compass all built in, with users able to quickly check any of the readings by pressing a button on the right side of the watch. These buttons have been designed to be large and feature a slip-free finish so they can easily be operated with gloves on, meaning they’re perfect for outdoor use.

It’s waterproof to 165 feet, and meets the MIL-STD-810G standards for shock, temperature, and humidity.

Casio’s watch is also equipped with Wi-Fi in addition to Bluetooth, so you can still get notifications even if your phone is out of range of other devices.

Battery life is estimated to be around a day, however Casio says that this can be extended to around a month by switching to a monochrome display option that only shows apps and screens in various shades of grey.

Casio says that the WSD-F10 will be available in the US from April for $500 (£343), with a wider release expected soon after that.
