HP refreshes its midrange and flash-optimised HP 3PAR StoreServ systems

Hewlett-Packard promises its uprgaded  flash-optimised HP 3PAR StoreServ systems will perform better and be more efficient while at the same time be less complex.

The company’s refreshed portfolio includes 3PAR File Persona software and the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7440c Converged Flash Array, which provides “all-flash performance, unified storage agility, hybrid storage affordability and flat backup of 3PAR StoreServ snapshots to HP StoreOnce Backup”.

HP says that traditional “unified storage” solutions promise device consolidation but do so at the expense of efficiency and performance. But it claims that its 3PAR StoreServ 7000c-series with 3PAR File Persona software solves the performance and efficiency issue with converged file and object-access alongside existing flash-optimised block storage.

A new 3PAR StoreServ Management Console also integrates all block, file, and object-access management.

“Enterprises today understand that complexity can be a major bottleneck to new business expansion and IT innovation,” said David Scott, senior VP and general manager, Storage, HP. “Today’s announcement builds on our vision for HP Converge Storage to simplify storage through polymorphic architectures with a single platform built for the New Style of IT.”

Whilst HP has struggled for profit recently, the storage market has been a healthy growth driver, and the latest update to its range comes after the firm predicted the end of enterprise storage hard disc drives.

This followed the launch of a 3Par flash-based storage array with a $2 cost-per-usable-Gigabyte which it said would shift the balance away from hard disks to solid state drives in the enterprise storage sector.
