Intel Plant Evacuated After ‘Bomb Threat’

Intel employees at the firm’s Leixlip plant in Ireland were evacuated this morning following a security alert.

Police attended the campus at 6.30am and workers were told to leave the site. Some employees took to Twitter to detail the incident, posting photos of evacuated workers in the nearby McDonald’s restaurant.

The plant employs 4,000 staff and began operations in 1989. Since then, Intel has invested over $12.5 billion in turning the 360-acre former stud farm into one of the most technologically advanced industrial locations in Europe.

Other employees on Twitter are reporting that a bomb scare was phoned in to the local Gardaí. @Rory03 said: “Avoid leixlip this morning. Some clown phoned a bombscare into Intel earlier. Traffic tail backs on m4.”

Workers were able to return to the plant just after 9am following a police assessment. It is not yet known if a suspect package, a phone tip off, or both caused the incident.

Intel Ireland said on Twitter: “Security alert at our Leixlip campus is now over and employees returning to work – thanks everyone for your patience.”
