IO Signs Up Goldman Sachs As First British Data Centre Customer

US data centre firm IO has opened a data centre in Slough and signed up Goldman Sachs to be the facility’s first customer.

The site is IO’s second modular data centre outside of the US, following a data centre build in Singapore in 2013.

Footprint into Europe

“We are delighted to open the data centre with such a prestigious first customer,” said Nigel Stevens, IO’s UK managing director. “In preparation for our launch, we have assembled a great team of industry experts from the London area. We’re looking forward to helping existing customers expand their footprint into Europe, as well as attracting customers from the UK market.”

The Slough facility takes up more than 10,000 square metres, and features BASELAYER ECO modules, claiming to deliver efficient performance by using free, outside air, backed by traditional chilled water technology.

In December 2014, IO, which is based in Phoenix Arizona, announced it would be splitting into two separate companies. IO has continued to function as a data centre provider, whilst BaseLayer acts as the technology provider. The company CEO George Slessman said that the split allows the two companies to focus on their respective specialisms.
