Virgin Media brings 152Mbps superfast broadband to 5,000 more properties

Virgin Media is to expand its superfast broadband network to 5,000 more properties in the north east of England.

Residents and businesses in Hartlepool, Darlington, Sunderland and Stockton-On-Tees will soon be able to access speeds of up to 152Mbps vias the firm’s cable network, once the rollout is completed by the end of this month.

Virgin Media expansion

“We are very happy that Virgin Media is expanding its network across the region and not just in Stockton,” adds Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham, who encouraged the network expansion in the Hardwick estate. “By working together with residents, Virgin Media and the council we’re helping local people get faster broadband speeds and have created a model for other areas to follow when it comes to building better broadband.”

Virgin Media has made a number of moves in recent months to increase its fibre footprint, including the single biggest expansion in its history in East London, where 100,000 properties are set to be added to the network.

The company’s services are now available in more than 12.5 million homes and the firm has 4.4 million broadband customers, of which 47 percent receive speeds in excess of 50Mbps and 40 percent get more than 100Mbps.
