Samsung Offers Smartphone ‘Test Drive’ To iPhone Users

Try before you buy scheme open to customers in the US for just $1, although top Samsung devices are selling out fast

Samsung wants to attract iPhone users with a new scheme that will let users try out their devices, including the newly-announced Galaxy S6 Edge+ (pictured below) and Galaxy Note 5 before buying.

The initiative lets customers in the United States trial the two aforementioned devices or the original Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge for 30 days for $1.

Customers are providing with a ‘test drive kit’ which also comes with an activated SIM card which lasts for the duration of the trial.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ (7)The test device will come from the customer’s existing carrier, and there’s no obligation to buy at the end of the trial period, however those that do will receive a raft of benefits relating to their contract.

The Korean manufacturer claims the Samsung Ultimate Test Drive scheme has already proved to be so much of a success that the company is running low on stocks of its latest devices.

“Due to the overwhelming demand, we are temporarily out of test drive phones. Please keep checking back for available phones,” a statement on the Test Drive website reads.

 

It is unclear whether the test drive programme will be expanded the UK. TechWeekEurope has contacted Samsung but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Samsung is unsurprisingly looking to target the promotion at iPhone users as it looks to eat into Apple’s market share, providing customers of those devices which a specially designed website where they can sign up for their Ultimate Test Drive.

Recent figures from industry watchers Kantar Worldpanel showed that sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus helped Apple record significant growth across Europe’s five biggest markets, including the UK, for the second quarter of 2015.

Overall, Apple’s iOS had 34.1 percent of the UK market, with Android devices on top with 53.2 percent.
