Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Coming 29 August – Report

A successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note is on its way according to reports

Samsung is set to reveal a successor to the Galaxy Note at an event on 29 August, weeks before the widely expected unveiling of the iPhone 5, according to reports.

The Korean manufacturer told Reuters to expect the latest version of the smartphone-tablet hybrid at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin.

South Korean media reports have indicated the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will feature an “unbreakable” 5.5-inch display, slightly larger than the 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen in the current iteration. It will also apparently boast a processor faster than the 1.4GHz powering its predecessor and a far superior camera.

The original Samsung Galaxy Note was first announced in September last year, differentiating itself from the competition not only with its size, but its ability to convert handwritten notes using an S Pen into an editable memo.

Samsung overtook Apple last year to become the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer and the Galaxy Note will form part of its efforts to defend its crown ahead of the anticipated release of the iPhone 5 in either September or October.

It released its new flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S III, earlier this year and has sold more than ten million units since its May debut. This equates to 190,000 smartphones every day.

Apple has accused Samsung of copying the iPad and other Apple products and the companies are currently engaged in a worldwide legal battle over alleged patent infringements.

The battle is entering its final stages with both companies facing a ten-member jury in a US Federal Court in San Jose, California. Billions of pounds are at stake and the result could change the landscape of the mobile market significantly.
