Phones4u To Ship Samsung Galaxy S II On 27 April

Release date of Samsung Galaxy S II Android super-phone brought forward, but only for Phones4u

The Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone will be available from Phones4u in the UK from 27 April, earlier than the previously announced release date of 1 May.

First shown at Mobile World Congress in Fabruary, the Galaxy S II is billed as a “the world’s thinnest smartphone” at 8.5mm. While aimed at consumers, the phone, which will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has enterprise features including encryption, a VPN client, and remote lock-and-wipe.

Earlier delivery than planned

Phones4u now has a pre-order page for the Samsung Galaxy S II which it will ship on 27 April, with the offer of a free 8GB memory card.

The phone has a 4.3in Super AMOLED Plus screen, and comes with Samsung user interface additions including “Hubs” for different functions such as music, social media and games. It also has an 8Mpixel camera with LED flash, and a 2Mpixel front-facing camera.

The phone was first shown at Mobile World Congress in February, and originally due to arrive on 31 March, was delayed by a hardware upgrade, from a 1GHz to 1.2GHz dual core ARM chip.

At the same time, the phone got a price cut, dropping £100 from an expected price of nearly £600, to a price of £499 on pay as you go, or free with a £35 a month contract on a choice of networks.
