Orange Tahiti Tablet Available Nationwide Today

UK operator Orange releases its own branded Android Honeycomb tablet

Orange has launched its own branded Android tablet in the UK, claiming that the new ‘Tahiti’ would provide “users with a tablet experience traditionally associated with a more high-end device.”

The Tahiti is available nationwide from today and is available from £69.99 on a £25 a month contract for two years or for free if bought as part of a connected 24 month plan with the San Francisco mobile phone for £41 per month.

Powered by Android Honeycomb, a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor and 512 MB of RAM, the Tahiti boasts a 7 inch multi-touch LCD screen and a five mega pixel camera. Connectivity is provided in the form of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G, while the device has access to the Android marketplace and has full Adobe Flash support.

Battery life apparently lasts around six hours of working time and Orange claims that it is perfect for users to surf the internet and watch movies on the go.

“We’re pleased to be expanding our portfolio of own-brand devices into tablets for the first time,” commented Paul Jevons, director of products and devices at Everything Everywhere. “The Tahiti is a stylish, lightweight device with a great quality screen, which we believe really does offer great value innovation and will help customers to get the most out of their multimedia content whilst on the go.”

Apple’s iPad currently dominates the tablet market, but the Android platform is expected to challenge its supremacy in the near future, with low-cost tablets such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire leading the charge.

The Kindle Fire has been buoyed by its comparatively low price tag of just $199 (£126) resulting in over four million units being sold over the Christmas period.
