BCS Launches Support Group For Entrepreneurs

The Chartered Institute for IT has today launched a new specialist group that will provide support to entrepreneurs and start-ups

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has today launched a new specialist group that will provide support to entrepreneurs and start-up businesses in the IT industry.

BCS Entrepreneurs will offer business mentorship, and supply new companies with highly qualified workforce through its internship programmes.

The move builds upon government plans to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the UK, and complements initiatives such as Tech City.

Getting started

BCS fosters links between experts from the industry, academia and business to drive the technology sector forward. It provides information and support to over 70,000 members, and promotes internal standards and codes of conduct.

In March, the Institute launched a project aiming to improve quality of IT education.

The objective of BCS Entrepreneurs is to engage with start-ups to grow the UK’s digital ecosystem for the benefit of its members and the society at large. The participation is not reserved for BCS members as anyone can join, as long as they work in a relevant field. However, the primary focus of the group will be on students and recent graduates.

“Our aim is to build a community of entrepreneurs and help them turn their ideas into commercial reality by providing support and guidance from those who have already succeeded in this area. By joining the group entrepreneurs can connect with other digital innovators via links with BCS members, other specialist groups and regional branches,” said Anil Hansjee, chair of the BCS Innovation and Entrepreneurship working group.

“We will also act as a policy voice representing the interests of the digital entrepreneurial community. As the Chartered Institute for IT, we are able to bridge the gap for business development and procurement between digital entrepreneurs and large corporates who traditionally find it difficult to connect and do business together,” he added.

BCS Entrepreneurs will host its first event in London on 23 July:
