EE 4G Roaming Arrives In Spain And France, US And Others To Follow

EE to bring 4G roaming to more countries by the summer, while LTE arrives in Londonderry/Derry in Northern Ireland

EE 4G customers can now roam on LTE networks in France and Spain, with the possibility to access superfast broadband on holiday extended to the US, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Netherlands by summer.

4G roaming is available immediately to consumers and SMB customers, while corporate customers will receive the privilege in the next few months.

Unlike Three, which has scrapped certain roaming charges in some countries entirely, 4G roaming is not inclusive on EE, and since it charges a premium for its LTE plans, it is also upping the price for those who want to roam even faster.

“EE already has the biggest and fastest 4G network in the UK – now we’re also allowing our customers to stay connected on 4G when they’re abroad,” says EE CEO Olaf Swantee. “Whether it’s working on the move, social networking, using maps, or just finding a great place to eat in an unknown city, our customers will now benefit from the same superfast and reliable mobile experience at home and overseas.”

While EE customers will have to wait to be able to roam on 4G in the US, AT&T customers can already access EE’s LTE service when they are visiting the UK, and EE is in negotiations with other potential partners over wholesale agreements.

EE has also announced some news closer to home. The city of Londonderry/Derry is now covered by the operator’s 4G network, which now extends to 175 towns and cities, along with many of the UK’s major airports.

Earlier today, RootMetrics revealed the findings of the UK’s biggest ever study into mobile performance and declared EE to be the best performing network in the country.
