6.4in device is Xiaomi’s biggest yet, and comes with suitably significant power to match

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has released its biggest device to date as it looks to muscle in on the growing ‘phablet’ market.

The Mi Max features a 6.44in display, meaning it might struggle to fit in many people’s trouser pockets, and comes in an all-metal design just 7.5mm across that will be available in three colours when it goes on sale next week.

However unlike other similarly-sized devices, the Xiaomi Mi Max will be on sale starting at just 1,499 Chinese Yuan (£159).

Sizeable

The processor options place the phone behind the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 or the LG G5, both of which sport more powerful Snapdragon chips.

Its significant size however does allow for a 4,850mAh battery which should be more than enough to keep it powered throughout the day.

As for software, the Mi Max runs Android but also comes with the MIUI 8 user interface. This includes several new upgrades, including an updated gallery app.

There’s also a fingerprint scanner on the rear to allow for speedy unlocking of the device, and this is coupled with a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front camera which comes with a wide-angle lens to capture the perfect selfie.

Also included are dual-SIM capability, SD card expansion for more storage, and NFC ability for contactless payments.
