New Galaxy S6 Edge Plus device will come with Qualcomm 808 processor and 5.5in screen

The first details surrounding Samsung’s next Galaxy S6 smartphone appear to have leaked online, showing a powered up version of the company’s S6 Edge device.

The rumoured Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus looks set to feature a larger screen and more powerful hardware than its older brother, with the latter in particular springing a bit of a surprise.

That’s according to notorious online Twitter tipster @onleaks, which has revealed images purporting to show the new device, alongside pictures of dummy units used to help third-party accessory designers.

Size up

Overall, the device’s dimensions are reported as 154.45 x 75.80 x 6.85 mm, and will sport the curved edge display found it the original smartphone design.

The photos also appear to show a standard microUSB port on the device, instead of the USB Type-C port increasingly chosen by many manufacturers.

Under the hood, the new device will apparently arrive sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, as Samsung drops its own hardware for a tried-and-tested chip. The original S6 Edge was expected to ship with a Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm’s flagship processor, but surprisingly instead came powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 CPU, which was reviewed poorly by many.

However, the Snapdragon 808, which was recently seen powering the LG G4, looks to offer better power management and battery life, although buying from an outside company will drive up the build cost of the device.
