Under existing laws, however, many police investigations are hampered by difficulties in obtaining crucial communications data since many service providers are under no obligation to collect and store user data.
Seeking to address the inadequate legislative framework, the government published the Draft Communications Data Bill on 14th June 2012, setting out vital powers to help catch criminals, save lives and protect children.
